The SAI was not conceived in an academic lecture hall. Its foundation rests on the lived experience of our Founder, Fidel Strub, a survivor of Noma a severe, neglected disease that destroys facial tissue and personal identity.

Over decades, Fidel’s image, voice, and personal history were featured across global campaigns to raise public awareness and drive fundraising. The values generated by his representation was immense, yet the individuals who lived it received zero compensation, zero royalties, and zero governance over where those media assets ended up.

Decades later, photographs from those early years are still circulating online, leaving the subject with no mechanism to recall legacy imagery or enforce time-bound consent.

Later, serving as a director and president of international organisations, Fidel saw the exact same systemic pattern repeating behind closed doors:

  • Uncompensated Content Extraction: Relying on community members and survivors for campaign material without fair compensation, community royalties, or economic rights.

  • Paternalistic Storytelling: Erasing local leaders, doctors, and community heads who actually drive project execution to present simplified foreign “hero” narratives.

  • Unbacked Claims & Legacy Assets: Using decades-old media trapped in digital archives without active re-consent or recall rights for the subjects.

At the same time, through direct interactions with major institutional donors, one reality became clear: donors are increasingly asking for true transparency. They want verified proof of how communities and storytellers are treated, how local partners are compensated, and whether field realities match public promises.

Fidel Strub built the SAI to bridge this exact gap ensuring communities are treated with economic fairness and giving serious organisations a rigorous standard to prove their field-level integrity
